Recovery and sorting

Collection starts with identifying the source and condition of recovered products. Sorting separates unsuitable inputs and organizes material for extraction. Mixed filling, damaged articles and contamination require assessment before an input is accepted.

Extraction releases the filling from the product shell. Separation then helps organize the recovered down and feather into material fractions. Neither stage substitutes for a composition test on the resulting lot.

Cleaning, treatment and drying

Washing removes unwanted residues as part of a controlled process. Sterilization or other hygiene treatment must be described with evidence of the actual process and its validation. A process name alone does not prove a specific microbiological outcome.

Drying prepares the material for storage and further handling. Moisture, handling and packaging matter after treatment as well as during production. Buyers should request relevant controls rather than assume the material remains protected in every shipping condition.

Release the lot against an agreed specification

• Define composition, species and color requirements.
• Agree fill power units and conditioning method.
• Check cleanliness, oxygen number, moisture and fat/oil requirements.
• Match packing labels and reports to the approved lot.

Why a flowchart cannot replace records

The process sequence explains the manufacturing route; batch records show what happened to a specific lot. For sourcing approval, ask which records connect accepted input, processing stages, laboratory results and packed output. Do not infer temperatures, treatment durations or environmental savings from the diagram.
