Begin with the claim you need to support
For a recycled-content requirement, assess the recovered inputs and the applicable certified chain. For an animal-welfare requirement, examine the sourcing assurance required by your brand. A company holding multiple certificates is not evidence that every material it sells carries every claim.
Textile Exchange’s RDS includes animal-welfare requirements, including prohibitions on live plucking and force feeding. GRS has recycled-content, chain-of-custody and processing requirements. Their objectives differ, so one certificate cannot be substituted for the other in a sourcing file.
Compare the evidence, not just the initials

Scope certificates and shipment evidence
A scope certificate identifies the certified organization and its covered products and activities. Textile Exchange explains that this alone does not establish that the product being ordered is certified; the relevant transaction evidence is needed. Check both the supplying legal entity and the material description.
Request current documents before purchase and agree how shipment identity, quantity and claim will be linked. Textile Exchange provides certificate-authentication resources; ask the issuing certification body to resolve inconsistencies. Check the policies applicable on the transaction date before approving labels.
Read the supplied ELLY record as a purchasing example
Elly Feather & Down Product Co., Ltd. holds GRS 4.0 scope certificate IDF-25-946508, issued by IDFL and valid until 7 April 2027. The scope covers trading and warehousing/distribution of post-consumer recycled white and grey down and feathers. Certified shipments require a valid transaction certificate or equivalent covering the goods.
The practical distinction is between an organization’s covered activity and the claim for your goods. The supplied scope is trading and warehousing/distribution; it must not be expanded into a claim that recycling or manufacturing at every site is GRS-certified. An RDS document cannot fill a gap in recycled-content evidence.

Does RDS certify recycled content?
No. RDS and a recycled-content claim address different sourcing questions. Request evidence appropriate to each claim.
Does GRS guarantee a particular down percentage or fill power?
No. Agree the material composition and performance specification separately and verify it with the relevant reports.
Can I put a certification logo on a finished product after buying certified filling?
Do not assume so. Confirm the applicable downstream certification, claim and labeling rules for the finished product with your certification body.
